Further Information About GERMAN Edwin
The following report appears in Berrow’s Worcester Journal, 17th June 1916:
MISSING-BELIEVED KILLED
Mrs E.F. German, of 19, Beynon Street, Newbridge, Mon. (at present in Worcester), has received information that her husband, Pte. Edwin German, Welsh Regt., previously reported missing, is now reported “missing, believed killed.” He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. German, of 6, Rainbow Parade, Rainbow Hill, Worcester. He volunteered soon after the war broke out, and went out with the South Wales Borderers. He was wounded, and sent to a London Hospital. When he recovered he transferred into the Welsh Regiment, and went out for the second time in May, 1915. He was reported missing 20 days afterwards, and is now believed to have been killed in action. He had seen nearly two years service in the present campaign.
A photograph of Private E. Germans can be found in Berrow’s Worcester Journal Supplement, Saturday 17th June 1916, available at Worcestershire Archives.
Edwin German has no known grave, the photograph available shows his name on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial.
