Further Information About FOXWELL Cyril Henry Rowland

Appears in the Worcester/Worcestershire Roll of Honour Book for army casualties located in Worcester Cathedral under Malvern casualties.

Cyril Foxwell was the eldest son of Caleb and Laura Foxwell of Anglesea House, Malvern. He attended Worcester Royal Grammar School from 1908 to 1910. After leaving school he was employed by Messrs Mann & Sons, Builders’ Ironmongers of Worcester. He enlisted in August 1914 and saw action in France and Flanders before being sent to Egypt. He was killed in action whilst attached to the Worcestershire Yeomanry during a 6 hour battle against huge Turkish forces. Another former pupil of the school, Robert Surman, was killed in the same action. An Officer who had known Cyril Foxwell wrote €œHe was an excellent soldier and will be sadly missed both by the section and by myself€.

Malvern News, 15th May 1916:
Mr Caleb Foxwell of Anglesea House, has received notification that his second son, Cyril H R Foxwell, aged 22 has been killed in action. He was an Old Elizabethan and enlisted at the outbreak of war.
