Appears in the Worcester/Worcestershire Roll of Honour Book for army casualties located in Worcester Cathedral.
Dudley Farr Cox enlisted in the Royal Engineers for the duration of the war on 13th November 1915 in London. On his attestation form he gave his age as 29 years, his birthplace as Malvern Link, Worcestershire and his occupation as a surveyor and draughtsman. After training Dudley was posted overseas with the British Expeditionary Force in 1916, arriving in France on 21st February. On 1st July 1916 he was posted Missing On Service and officially accepted as Prisoner of War from a list furnished by the German Government on 24th September 1916. His death whilst a prisoner of war was not confirmed until 1917. Dudley’s personal property was sent to his mother, Mrs Elizabeth D. Cox, Spring Cottage, Malvern Link, Worcestershire. On 20th December 1919 Elizabeth completed a form for the army records which gave information on the family: Father: died 18th October 1919, Mother: Elizabeth Dorothy Cox, brothers: Nelson Felix Cox (age 30), Jacob W. Cox (age 36), half brother: Charles Wallace Cox (age 49), sisters: Mary Cox (age 38), Dollie Cox (age 34).
Malvern News, 22nd July 1916:
Pte Dudley Farr Cox of the London Engineers, of Malvern Link is reported missing. For some years he was with Mr T W Holds, architect, Malvern and latterly held a position in the Land Valuation Office.
