EVILL, CHETWODE PERCY, M.C., Capt. (Temp.), Faridkot Sappers and Miners, Indian Army, I.A.R.O., s. of the Rev. Henry Marten Evill, of St Martin’s Vicarage, Hereford, by his wife, Dora Janet, dau. of the Rev. Stopford James Ram; b. Dormans Land, East Grinstead, co. Surrey, 6 May, 1887; educ. Malvern Wells; Haileybury and King’s College, London (Engineering Department); joined the Inns of Court O.T.C. in 1910; went to India, and became Assistant Engineer on the Bombay and Baroda Railway in 1911; volunteered for active service, and was gazetted 2nd Lieut. (Temp.) Sappers and Miners, Indian Army, in Jan. 1915; served with his unit in East Africa from 1915 to 1918, and died at the Station Hospital, Meerut, India, of fever contracted in East Africa. Buried in Meerut British Cemetery. He was twice mentioned in Despatches, and awarded the Military Cross for gallant and distinguished service in the field; unm.
