The following information has been researched by Lisa Bayliss:
News of the death of Lance-Corporal Edwards was received a fortnight ago, as stated in the ‘Messenger’, at the time, and a notice has now been forwarded from the War Office that he was killed in action on May 9th The deceased was married twelve months ago, and leaves a widow but no children. He was the son of Mrs Rea of Peter’s Finger, Bromsgrove, who had another son killed in action almost exactly six months earlier, Company Quartermaster-Sergt A Edwards, 2nd Worcesters. Lance-Corporal Edwards worked at Rubery Hill Asylum and was called back to the army as a reservist, and went to France with the 3rd Worcesters. He was wounded at the battle of the Aisne in October, and invalided home. Soon after Christmas he was sent out to join the 1st Worcesters. Private Harry Edwards, another brother, is at the front with the 8th Worcesters.

MOTHER LOSES ANOTHER SON
News has been received by Mrs Rea, of 14, Peter’s Finger, Bromsgrove of the death of her son, Lance Corporal William Edwards, of the 1st Worcestershire Regiment. The deceased was married twelve months ago, and leaves a widow but no children. Before the war lance corporal Edwards worked as an attendant at the Rubery Hill Asylum, and was called back to the Army as a reservist, proceeding to France with the 3rd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment. He was wounded at the Battle of the Aisne in October 1914 and invalided home. Upon recovery, soon after Christmas, he returned to the Front and was posted to the 1st Battalion Worcestershire Regiment, being killed in action on 9 May 1915.
It will be remembered that another son of Mrs Rea, Company Quartermaster Sergeant, No. 3502, Albert Edwards, 2nd Worcestershire Regiment, was killed on 10 November 1914, and that her third son, Private Harry Edwards, No 160 8th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment was killed on 3 January 1916.
William Edwards has no known grave, the photograph available shows his name on Ploegsteert Memorial.
