Further Information About EDWARDS Enoch
Bromsgrove Weekly Messenger, 17th March 1917:
Private Enoch Edwards, 4694, Worcestershire Regiment, resident Bromsgrove. Killed in action on 23rd February 1917. Enlisted on 14th February 1916 and has been on active service since August. He was in his 28th year and before enlisting he was employed by Messrs. C & A Bird, Pinfield House, Barnt Green. His widow resides at 11 Gas Square, Bromsgrove (married since the outbreak of the war). A letter from his company commander, Captain J.P. Bate, states that he was serving as a runner and was hit by a bullet on the morning of 23rd February, causing injuries to his spine. He died soon afterwards. The report includes a photograph of Private Enoch Edwards.
The death of Enoch Edwards is also mentioned in a report on the death of Private George Banner of Bromsgrove in the Bromsgrove Weekly Messenger, 31st March 1917. Private Banner was a stretcher bearer and around 10 days before his death he tended two men who had been wounded and succeeded in getting them both to a place of safety, after having dressed their wounds, although he was under constant enemy fire. One of the wounded was Private Enoch Edwards, who has since died.
