Further Information About DUFFIN Harry

Harry Duffin was born at Bromsgrove in 1891, the son of John and Mary Duffin.  Prior to enlisting at Birmingham he was employed as a horse driver on a farm.  He went to the Balkans on 25th April 1915.

Bromsgrove, Droitwich and Redditch Messenger, 3rd July 1915:
Mrs Duffin, of Hanover Street, Bromsgrove, has received a notification of the death from wounds on June 3rd of her son 12426, Private Harry Duffin of the 4th Worcesters. Private Duffin, who was 24 years of age, had been in the army four years.  While serving with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force he sustained a gunshot wound in the back and right shoulder and was removed to the 15th General Hospital at Alexandria.  The military authorities notified the mother that her son was dangerously ill, but in a letter home, written on his behalf by a comrade, Private Duffin pluckily impressed upon his mother that she must not worry and stated that he was being well looked after. Unfortunately however, he succumbed to his injuries as stated on June 3rd. Mrs Duffin has another son on service.
