Charles Dudley’s name is recorded on his parents’ headstone in Stourport Churchyard.
A framed document in All Saints Church, Wilden states that Charles was missing after the Battle of Hooge, Belgium aged 23 and was believed to be buried in Sanctuary Wood, Hooge.
During the attack on Bellewaerde Ridge, the 3rd Worcesters along with the Royal Irish Rifles gained the front line near Bellewaerde Lake. The Worcesters lost 33 officers and men killed, 266 wounded and 24 missing, most of whom were assumed killed.
Charles Dudley has no known grave, the photograph available shows his name on the Menin Gate Memorial.
