Further Information About DOLPHIN Edgar Wakeman G
Egbert Dolphin was born in Feckenham, Worcestershire; his birth is registered as Egbert Wakeman G. Dolphin in the September Quarter 1878 under the Alcester Registration District. He was the son of David and Mary Ann Dolphin and he was one of at least 8 children, including a brother named Edgar Ernest A. Dolphin. On the 1881 and 1891 census, Egbert lived at home with his parents and siblings in Feckenham. An Edgar Dolphin is registered in records as sailing from Liverpool, England bound for Quebec, Canada on 7th July 1906 on the Empress of Ireland. On the ship’s passenger list and Canadian Immigration records his age is given as 27 years old and his status as single. Canadian Immigration records record his final destination in Canada as Winnipeg and his occupation as a general labourer. Egbert’s brother Edgar married Sarah Ann Hooper in 1900 and the couple appear on the 1911 census residing in Yorkshire so it is probable that the entry for Edgar in the immigration records relates to Egbert Dolphin. The death of Edgar Ernest A Dolphin aged 81 is registered in 1957 under the Evesham Registration District.
Egbert Dolphin enlisted as a Private in the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force on 28th February 1916 at St Thomas, Ontario. On his attestation paper his name is given as Egbert Dolphin, his date of birth as 30th June 1877 in Feckenham, Worcestershire, his occupation as a Car Repairer and his next of kin as his mother, Mary Ann Dolphin of Feckenham, near Redditch, England. Egbert was 5 feet 8¾ inches tall with a medium complexion, brown eyes and dark brown hair.
