Further Information About DODD Herbert William
Herbert Dodd was a Reservist recalled to the Colours in August 1914, and first entered a theatre of war in France on 12th August 1914. He was killed during the Battle of the Aisne. He was awarded a 1914 Star with an Aug- Nov Clasp, a British War Medal and a Victory Medal.
The losses of the Battalion on September 20th were one officer killed, one mortally wounded, 3 officers wounded. Other ranks 6 killed, 5 wounded, 16 missing.
Mentioned in “Upton News” dated 28th November 1914. “News has been received at Severn Bank, Severn Stoke, where he was formerly employed as a footman, of the death of H. Dodd, a Reservist of the Worcestershire Regiment who at the outbreak of the war went out with the British Expeditionary Force. Some little time back it was reported that deceased had been missing for six weeks, but now the War Office intimates his death. He was believed to have been killed in the retirement from Mons.”
