1. William Ernest Deakin was born on Tuesday 7th May 1889 at 3 Spring Gardens, Worralls Common, Pensax, the eldest child of George Deakin and his wife Alice, nee Alyes. He was baptised at St James the Greater Church, Pensax on Sunday 14th July 1889. On 31st July 1893 he entered Pensax School where he remained until the age of 14, leaving school on the 8th May 1903. In December 1905 the family moved to Abberley, first to Glazzards Green and then to Elms Green.
