Newspaper Report:
Twyning Soldier Killed in Action
Mrs E. Davis, of 25 Chance street, has received news that her husband, L.Cpl. E.J. Davis, has been killed in action. Major Ellis, his Commanding Officer, wrote this sad intelligence and members of the deceased soldier’s unit have also written Mrs Davis expressing their sympathy. She hopes to hear in the future the name of the ruined church in the churchyard of which her husband was laid to rest.
L.Cpl. Davis was the son of Mr and Mrs H. Davis, of Hillend, Twyning, and was educated at Tewkesbury Grammar School. He was well known and much respected and a memorial service conducted by the Vicar (Rev. J. Evans) was held at Twyning Church on Sunday last. Members of the Twyning Women’s Institute have sent a letter of sympathy.
