Cyril Davies was born on 14th May 1892 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. He lived in the village of Peterchurch near Hereford when he was appointed as Police Constable No 245, Worcester Constabulary on 4th March 1914. He was single and his previous employment was with the Neath & Brecon Railway company as a railway porter at Neath station. He was 5 feet 9¼ inches tall, weighed 10 stone 11lbs, his chest measurement was 35 inches and he had a fresh complexion with blue eyes and brown hair. Cyril spent 1 year and 99 days with the constabulary, rising to the rank of Constable 2nd Class and working at Police Headquarters in Worcester until 26th May 1914 and then at Stourbridge police station from 27th May 1914 until 12th January 1915. On 13th January 1915 he transferred to Lye police station where he remained until he left the police force to enlist in the army on 11th June 1915.
