Further Information About DANIEL Walter

Walter Daniel enlisted in the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force on 19th January 1916 at Montreal, Canada.  On his attestation form he gave his date of birth 24th April 1883 at Worcester, England, his current address as Cowansville, Quebec where he lived with his wife and 3 sons aged 9, 7 and 18 months and his occupation as a Baker.  He had previously served in the Worcester Volunteer Force.  Walter was 5 feet 8½ inches tall with a dark complexion, dark brown hair and brown eyes.

Walter sailed from Halifax, Canada on the SS Laconia on 26th September 1916, arriving in Liverpool, England on 6th October 1916. After 13 months in England he was posted overseas on 14th November 1917 arriving in France on 16th November 1917. On 4th December 1917 he was admitted to No 58 Casualty Clearing Station before being transferred to No 2 Stationary Hospital, Autreau. After discharge on 8th January 1918 to a rest camp he returned to his Division on the 29th January. Walter was admitted to No 1 Casualty Clearing Station on 22nd February 1918 where he died the following day from suspected corrosive poisoning. The cause of his death was later ascertained to be acute inflammation of Stomach (Phlegmonous).
