Alfred Cumming enlisted in the Royal Flying Corps at Worcester on 19th December 1916. On his attestation form he gave his home address as Eastbury Manor, Hallow, Worcester, his age as 24 and his occupation as a clerk.  He was discharged on 12th April 1917 as “his services being no longer required, having been selected for appointment to a temporary commission as 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) on the General List for duty with the R.F.C.”
