John Cross was born in Lusley, Worcestershire.  He enlisted in the Worcestershire Yeomanry on 8th November 1915 at Worcester, Service No 3476, for the duration of the war.  John gave his age as 37 years and 7 months and his occupation as a Labourer.  He was 5 feet 8 inches tall and gave his next of kin as his mother, Emma Cross, of Alfrick near Worcester.  He was discharged from the army on 3rd August 1916 as being medically unfit due to osteo-arthritis, a condition that originated 7 years previously and was not the result of nor aggravated by military service.
