The following report appears in the Upton News of 10th August 1919:
Death of Mr J.W. Cridge
The funeral of Third Officer John Wendon Cridge, only surviving child of the late Mr J.R. Cridge, and Mrs Cridge, who passed away at the residence of his aunt, Highleigh, Upton-on-Severn, on Thursday last, after a long illness, at the early age of 25 years, was conducted by Canon Edmondson, at Upton Cemetery, on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased, who had been in the Mercantile Service for about seven years, was fairly well-known in the district, where he repeatedly came on a visit to his relatives. He was engaged at the outset of the war in Indian waters, but later H.M. Transport “Trafford Hall”, which was specially mentioned for her services, was transferred to German East Africa, where deceased saw two years service and where he contracted the complaint from which he died.
The report continues with a list of mourners, a description of the flowers lining the grave and a list of the wreaths.
