Henry Cottom was born in 1893, the Son of Albert and Sarah Cotton, The Bevins, Hinton on the Green.  Before enlisting in the army he was employed as a Gardener.  Henry enlisted at Worcester on 1st September 1914 and served as Lance-Corporal, subsequently Company-Sergeant-Major 15228, 9th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment. He went to the Balkans on 4th July 1915.  Henry was awarded Distinguished Conduct Medal (D.C.M.)and was discharged on 31st October 1917 to take up a commission in the Indian Army.  He died in 1967, aged 74.
