HMS President was a shore establishment of the Royal Naval Reserve based near Tower Bridge, London on the northern bank of the River Thames.  Personnel based at the establishment would have been sent to sea on other ships.

Thomas Clapton attended Worcester Royal Grammar School from 1891 to 1896.  Prior to the war he served in the Merchant Navy and in 1911 he was Chief Officer in the British India S.S. Co. mail steamer operating between Calcutta and Rangoon.  He died in Canada from Spanish Influenza.
