Edmund Chambers enlisted in the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force on 12th July 1915 at Calgary, British Columbia, Canada. On his attestation paper he gave his date of birth as 9th November 1890 in Warwickshire, England, his occupation as a Store Clerk and his next of kin as his mother, Mrs G.M. Chambers, Bewdley, Worcestershire, England. This was later amended to Mrs Mary G. Chambers, Hanworth, Station Rd., Knowle, Warwickshire. Edmund had one years previous military service with the 18th Mounted Rifles, Winnipeg. He was 5 feet 7½ inches tall with brown eyes, black hair and a dark complexion.
Edmund sailed from to England from Canada on 23rd or 27th October 1915 (both dates given in his service records), departing from England on 5th January 1916 and landing in France on 6th January 1916. He joined the 10th Battalion in the field in France on 17th January 1916. Edmund was admitted to No 3 Canadian Casualty Clearing Station on 11th August 1916 where he died on the same day from gunshot wounds to the left side of his neck and chest.
