Hugh Cass was born in 1891. He attended Malvern College in House 2 from September 1904 to 1909.

Hugh Cass enlisted as a Sergeant in the 32nd Divisional Signal Company India Army Corps on 21st August 1914 at Bombay. On his attestation form he gave his date of birth as 29th April 1891, his home address as 153 Ashley Gardens, London S.W and his next of kin as his father T.B. Cass of the same address.

On 30th September 1914, Hugh was admitted to the 19th British Field Ambulance Hospital at Marseilles, France suffering from colitis. He was discharged from hospital on 8th October 1914. He was granted leave to England from 30th December 1914 to 18th January 1915 during which time he was granted a commission as a temporary 2nd Lieutenant. Hugh Cass was discharged on 3rd February 1915 having been appointed as a Lieutenant with the South Wales Borderers. At the time of his discharge he was 23 years 268 days old, 6 feet tall and had a fair complexion. He was killed in action on 15th June 1915.

Hugh Cass was awarded the 1914 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
