Name given as Roland Douglas Carwood on the Veterans UK Roll of Honour.

The birth of Douglas Roland Carwood is registered in the March Quarter 1931 under the Bromyard Registration District, mother’s maiden name: Green.

Douglas Carwood was born on 30th January 1931, the son of Albert and Lavinia (nee Green) Carwood. He was one of at least 6 children.  At the age of 15, Roland was employed as a farm worker for Mr Spilsbury at Barrow Hill Farm.  In 1951 he enlisted in the army at Worcester and he was posted to the Durham light Infantry at Witley Bay.  In 1952 he was posted to Hong Kong, leaving the colony to take part in the fighting in Korea. According to the regimental diary, conditions in Korea were similar to the trenches in WW1.

The grave photograph available shows his name as R.D. Carwood on the Armed Forces Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas, England.
