Further Information About CARTWRIGHT James
James Cartwright came originally from Brierley Hill where his father lived at 26 Bell Street. He enlisted in the Worcesters before 1914 and was serving in the 3rd Battalion at the outbreak of war. He experienced the retreat from Mons, the halting of the German advance on the Aisne and the First Battle of Ypres in 1914. The Worcesters were stationed at Ploegsteert Wood in early 1915, fought at Bellewaerde near Ypres in the Spring and returned in the Autumn to Ploegsteert which had become a quiet sector. Only one man was killed in November and he was Private James Cartwright on the 12th November.
