Worked for the council as a Relieving Officer in the Public Assistance Department

HMS Bramble was a minesweeper that was escorting a convoy in the Barents Sea when she met the German battleship Hipper.  In the ensuing battle she suffered severe damage and was later sunk by the German Destroyer Eckholdt with the loss of all crew members.

Joseph Cannon has no known grave, the photograph available shows his name on Plymouth Naval Memorial.
