John William Calcott, Gunner, 137952, 58th Brigade Royal Field Artillery, 40 Manor Road, appears on the Absent Voters List for Stourport 1918.
John was known as Jack to family and friends and he resided with his wife and child at 44 Manor Road, Stourport. He enlisted on 24th May 1916 and had been in France for just over two years. Employed at Dunlop rubber works, Birmingham, he had previously worked at Baldwins. His only brother, Richard, was killed 12 months ago.

On 9th October, the 1st/7th Worcesters took part in the Battle of Poelcappelle, attacking Adler Farm, Inch Houses, Oxford Houses and Wallemolen. The advance failed as enemy machine-gun fire swept across the front.
