Ernest Bullock was born on 5th January 1885 in the village of Berrow near Upton on Severn, Worcestershire.  He lived in Berrow when he was appointed as Police Constable No 185, Worcester Constabulary on 1st October 1909.  He was single and his previous employment was as a labourer for the Glamorgan Coal Company.  He was 5 feet 10½ inches tall, weighed 12 stone 3lbs, his chest measurement was 37 inches and he had a fresh complexion with grey eyes and brown hair.  He had a tattoo on each arm and he was a member of the Gloucester Liberal Benefit Society.  Ernest spent 5 years and 253 days with the constabulary, rising to the rank of Constable 1st Class and working at Police Headquarters in Worcester until 29th October 1910 and then at Blockley police station from 30th October 1910 until 9th June 1911.  On 10th June 1911 he transferred to Cakemore police station where he remained until he left the police force to enlist in the army on 11th June 1915.
