Additional information on the memorial: Capt.
Basil Bruton attended Bromsgrove School from 1893 to 1897. He was a School Monitor, Captain of the school football team (XI), a member of the school rugby team (XV) and was involved with the school orchestra. On leaving school he took employment with the family firm of Messrs’ Bruton, Knowles and Co., Estate Agents, in Gloucester. As well as becoming a member of the City Council and taking a prominent role in local affairs, his musical interests led to him conducting an orchestra of amateurs at charity performances and assisting at school concerts. He was given a commission shortly after the outbreak of the war and shortly before he was killed in action on 15th June 1918 he was appointed Adjutant of his battalion.
