George Brotherton was born in Evesham in 1891, son of Henry and Eliza Brotherton. Resident 4 Trumpet Court, Merstow Green, Evesham. Prior to the war he was employed as a gardener. He enlisted at Evesham in August 1915.

Evesham Journal, 14th October 1916:
Mr J Brotherton of 20, Mill Street, has received official information that his brother Private G L Brotherton of the Worcesters has been killed in action in France. He was 25 years of age and before joining the Army, which he did twelve months ago last August, he was in the employment of Mr Fred Byrd. Private Brotherton had been wounded once in the left arm, but on recovering from the wound was again sent back to the firing line.
