The following report appears in the Upton on Severn News, 18th December 1915:
Notification has been received of the death of Pte. George Bridges, of New Street, who was formerly in the employ of Mr Albert Fowler, builder etc., Church Street. Soon after the declaration of hostilities Pte. Bridges joined a pioneer battalion, and it was whilst engaged in trench digging that he received a bullet wound in his chest the injury terminating fatally some days later.
