Gordon Ediss Boyes was one of three children of Ediss Boyes. He had a sister, Judith Boyes and a brother, Alfred Boyes. Their father was wounded in the Great War.

Gordon Boyes was on a training flight on a Wellington Bomber Mark I, No DV936 piloted by Flight Sergeant D.E. Hamlyn when it crashed at Wychbold, Worcestershire killing all crew members.

Advice has been received of the death of Sgt Gordon Ediss Boyes RAAF, as the result of an aircraft accident at Wychbold. Worcestershire, England, on April 21. He was the second son of Capt E. Boyes, AIF and Mrs Boyes, Hobart.
Sgt Boyes took a keen interest in sport and was a well-known yachtsman. He was a member of the crew of Kitti wake when she won the Stonehaven Cup in 1938, and represented Tasmania as helmsman of that cadet dinghy in the same contest in 1939. He won both the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania and Derwent Sailing Squadron pennants.

Sgt Boyes was educated at the Hutchirs School, Hobart, and before his enlistment was on the staff of the Agricultural Dept. at Hobart. He enlisted in the RAAF in 1941, and carried out his training under the Empire Air Scheme in Australia He qualified as an air gunner, and left for overseas in 1942. He had been in England for some months.

His wife Joan, daughter of Mr and Mrs W. J. Forsythe, Sandy Bay Hobart, and baby daughter, survive Sgt Boyes. His brother, Cpl. E. A. Boyes, is a member of the AIF and he has a sister, Judith.

The funeral of Sgt Boyes took place at Pershore cemetery, Worcester, on Monday.

Sergeant Gordon Ediss Boyes serving with the Royal Australian Air Force was buried in consecrated ground in Pershore Cemetery on 26th April 1943. The ceremony was performed by the Reverend F.P. Maydew, R.A.F. Station, Pershore.
