Albert Alfred Blake was born in Badgeworth, Gloucestershire in 1891, the son of George and Alice Blake and brother of Charlie Blake. In 1911 the family were resident in Bushley and Albert was employed as a farm labourer.
Albert Blake served as Private 13142, Gloucestershire Regiment. He went to France on 20th September 1915. He was discharged as no longer physically fit for war service on 24th July 1917 at the age of 25 years and 10 months. A medical report states the cause of his discharge as debility following dysentery at Salonika in October 1916 and several severe asthma attacks in 1917. Albert was 5 feet 7½ inches tall with a fresh complexion, grey eyes and black hair.
