Joseph Binks enlisted in the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force on 22nd September 1914 at Valcartier, Quebec, Canada. On his attestation paper he gave his date of birth as 4th January 1894 in Birmingham, England. He was employed as a mechanic and had 6 months previous military experience with the Queens Own, Toronto. His next of kin was his father, George Binks, Eversley, Blackwell near Bromsgrove, England. Joseph was 5 feet 5¾ inches tall with fair hair, blue eyes and brown hair. Joseph sailed from Canada with his unit bound for England on 3rd October 1914. He was posted overseas sometime after 26th April 1915 and posted missing after action near Givenchy on 15th June 1915, officially presumed to have died on or since that date on 18th April 1916.
