Further Information About BIGGS Joe

There is a name discrepancy between the details provided on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), Soldiers Died in the Great War (SDGW) and the two Redditch war memorials.  The CWGC records the casualty as George Albert Biggs with the same service number and date of death as shown on SDGW.  The two war memorials record the casualty as Joe Biggs which concurs with the SDGW who record the casualty as Joseph Biggs, born Redditch.  However, there appears to be no record of the birth of a Joseph Biggs within the area and only two Joseph Biggs are recorded on the 1911 census within Worcestershire, neither being near Redditch.  It is possible, for reasons unknown, that George may have used the name Joseph at some point leading to the discrepancies in the records.  The marriage of George A Biggs to Lilian Dixon is recorded under the Wakefield Registration District during the September Quarter 1916.
