Further Information About BENTLEY Frederick
Educated at Bromsgrove School. On the staff of Lloyd’s Bank, Limited.
Frederick Bentley was born in 1875. He attended Bromsgrove School from 1890 to 1894 and on leaving school he worked for Lloyds Bank as a Clerk before becoming a Cashier at the Lombard Street branch. He attested under the Derby Scheme and joined the Bankers Battalion of the Buffs. After training, he volunteered as a stretcher bearer and went to France in September 1917. On 4th October 1917 his company was attached to the Royal West Surrey Regiment in the attack on Polygon Wood. Frederick was posted missing after the battle, later presumed to have been killed in action on that day.
