Further Information About BECK Howard

Howard Beck was one of an all-sergeant crew on board Halifax II JB918 that took off at 00.41 on 27th April 1943 from RAF Pocklington in Yorkshire on a bombing raid targeting Duisburg in Germany. The aircraft piloted by Canadian Sergeant Grainger never reached the target, it was shot down over the North Sea where it crashed North of Texel. The aircraft was claimed by Unteroffizier Georg Kraft of out of Leeuwarden in Plan Quadrat at 04:29 hours. There were no survivors; Sergeant Foley and Sergeant Beck were washed ashore on the morning of 28th April and buried with full military honours in Texel cemetery later that day. Sergeants Foley and Oatridge are also buried in Texel cemetery, Sergeants Harris and Willis have no known graves and are commemorated on Runnymede Memorial, Sergeant Wells is buried in Esbjerg.
