Eric William Batsford was born on the 8th or 18th April 1919, the son of John Edward and Mary Batsford, 210 St Peter’s Road, Netherton, Dudley, Worcestershire. Prior to enlisting in the army he was employed as a printer. He was serving as Private 5776634, 4th Battalion Royal Norfolk Regiment when he was captured by the Japanese during the fall of Singapore in February 1942. Eric survived his captivity, his death is registered in the March Quarter 1989 under the Dudley Registration District.
