William Henry Barnard was born on 26th January 1896. He is mentioned a number of times in the Badsey parish magazine, wounded in France and now in hospital in Halifax (August 1915), the vicar received a cheery letter from Corporal W. Barnard (November 1915), Corporal W. Barnard of the Lincolns has been missing since 2nd July (August 1916), no news of Corporal W. Barnard (September 1916) and finally May 1917 when the magazine reported that Mr J. Barnard of Althorpe and formerly of Badsey has been officially notified that his only son, Corporal W. Barnard of the Lincolns, must now be assumed to have been killed in action since 1st July 1916.
