The death of Stephen Bannister aged 27 is registered in the December Quarter 1918 under the Whitchurch S. Registration District.

The following service papers probably relate to this casualty:
Stephen Bannister enlisted as Private 9699, 5th Battalion South Stafford Regiment, on 16th October 1914 at Old Hill, Staffordshire.  On his attestation paper he gave his place of birth as Rowley Regis, Stafford, his age as 23 years, 2 months and his occupation as a miner.  He was 5 feet 9 inches tall, no further description is given.  His military history sheet gives his next of kin as John Bannister, 9 Union Street, Netherton, Dudley and records that he served just 32 days in the army until 18th November 1914 when he was discharged under Paragraph 156 (II) (possibly Conduct Unsatisfactory to be a Soldier).
