Baker, Machine-Gun Section, West Yorkshire Regiment, who was shot by a German sniper, while attending his dead Captain on the 4th May 1916. He joined the army at the outbreak of war, prior to which he was employed by Mr Baker, of Kings Norton.
His father, Corporal J. baker, enlisted in the R.A.M.C. when the Hollymoor Asylum was taken over as a military hospital, and which was to be known as: (The 2nd Birmingham War Hospital), Hollymoor, Northfield, Birmingham.

[Research indicates that the ‘dead Captain’ to whom Lance Corporal John Baker was attending on 4th May 1916, was Captain Victor Eustace Reynolds, whose body was buried in the adjacent grave space within the Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery, France.]
