Further Information About BAIRD Andrew George Gordon
Andrew attended Worcester Royal Grammar School from 1929 to 1933. He joined the RAF after leaving school and during his 7 years of service he spent 5 years on a posting to India. On 7th July 1941 the Wellington bomber of which he was pilot took off from Binbrook as part of a 100 bomber raid on the port of Brest in France. The warships they were targeting were concealed by smoke-screens and Andrew’s bomber was hit by anti-aircraft fire. The plane crashed with the loss of all crew members, the only aircraft lost during the raid.
