Edwin Albert had previously served in the yeomanry and was attested on 11th December 1915 and to Army Reserve on 12th December 1915. He was mobilised in to the 3rd/8th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment as a Private on 29th February 1916 at Norton Barracks, Worcester, Service No 20845, for the duration of the war. He gave his home address as Timberdyne, Rock, near Bewdley, his age as 28 years and 2 months and his occupation as a carpenter. Edwin was 5 feet 7 and a half inches tall and his next of kin was his mother Mrs A Albert of Rock.
His service record shows that he served in the 3rd/8th Battalion from February 1916 before being posted to the 1st/7th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment, Service No 203810 on 8th December 1916. Edwin was admitted to hospital in Lincoln for 8 days from 8th July to 15th July 1917 for gas shell wounds to his head and face and was wounded in action on 26th August 1917. He was posted to the 11th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment on 30th November 1917 and was demobilized to the army reserve on 28th November 1919.
