Further Information About SURMAN Robert Essex
Robert Surman was the only son of Robert and Matilda Surman. He attended Worcester Royal Grammar School from 1903 to 1905 when the family lived at 48 Foregate Street, Worcester and also spent time at Bromsgrove School. After leaving school he worked as a motor engineer.

Robert Surman was born in 1892. He attended Bromsgrove School 1906 to 1908. He had joined the Yeomanry before the war broke out and went with them to Gallipoli and afterwards to Egypt. It was hoped that he had been taken prisoner but official confirmation of his death at Katia was later received.

Private R.E. Surman 1st/1st Worcester Yeomanry, embarked at Avonmouth 9th April 1915 for service with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, disembarked at Alexandria, Egypt on 24th April 1915. Killed in action 23rd April 1916.
