Walter Ford was born at Wakefield on 25th July 1888, one of 2 children, both sons, of James and Fanny Ford nee Morgan. He emigrated to New Zealand and became a sheep farmer. James and Fanny resided at The Crescent, Bromsgrove before moving to Silverdale, Lancashire.

Walter Ford, the younger son of the Rev. James Ford, of the Baptist Church, Bromsgrove, was born on July 25th 1888 at Wakefield, where his father was minister. He received his education in Bromsgrove and later at Taunton School. In January 1910, he left England for New Zealand where he engaged in sheep farming. Early in the present year he enlisted in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force and went into training at Trentham Camp, expecting to be drafted to the Dardanelles in September. A telegram from the Minister of Defence, Wellington, was received on Monday last, stating that he died in camp on the previous day. Last information shows death to have been caused by cerebro-spinal meningitis.
