Thomas Wood was born in Ledbury, Herefordshire in 1885. In 1901 aged 16 he was resident at 2 Morgan’s Villas, Malvern Link with his parents Thomas and Emma A. Wood and his two younger sisters, Clara aged 14 and Edith aged 13. He was employed as a carpenters apprentice. In 1911 he was still resident with his parents and 2 younger sisters in 1911 at 8 Valley Cottages, Albion Road, Newtown, Malvern.

Thomas Wood enlisted as Private 26864 in the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry on the 13th March 1916 at Worcester. On his attestation form he gave his address as 1 Salisbury Terrace, Quest Hills, Malvern, his age as 30 years 10 months, his occupation as a Carpenter and his next of kin as his mother, Emma Wood, of the same address. He was 5 feet 8 inches tall. Thomas was transferred to the Labour Corps as Private 94072 on the 9th May 1917 and demobilized to the army reserve on the 4th March 1919.

Thomas Wood died of a psoas abscess on the 12th December 1920 at the General Hospital, Malvern, leaving £797 16s 9d to Emma Anne Wood, widow. The abscess was the result of an accident while he was serving in France.
