To Mark Son’s Death In Action
Methodist Presentation to Mr J.L. Bates
An unusual chapter in the history of the Evesham Methodist Church Sunday School was written on Sunday, when Mr Harry Pouncett presented a copy of a special book of hymns, which the Sunday School had long cherished, to Mr J.L. Bates of the Sunday School staff, in memory of his son John (“Jack”) Pouncett, who was an old Sunday School member, and who was killed in Normandy a year ago.
Mr Pouncett, an old Sunday School teacher himself, and a preacher in the Methodist circuit, presented the book on behalf of his family and himself, and Mr Bates thanked him for his action, as the book had long been cherished by the Sunday School, who would always remember “Jack” Pouncett, who was well-known and loved by all who knew him.
