Appears on the Army casualties list for Worcestershire.
Bertie Field lived in Lye and was married to Winifred. He was employed during the early years of the war in installing heating equipment at various military units around the country. When he was called up, he enlisted in the Royal Armoured Corps. He was posted to the Inns of Court Regiment which was under training in Britain from 1941 to 1944 and did not see front line service until the Normandy invasion. The training took place in Northumberland and included the driving of scout cars. While being driven by a Trooper under instruction, his scout car turned over and all three crew were killed. The accident happened on the 26th October 1943 and his body was sent back to Lye for burial.
