Resident Ambleside, Westmoreland, enlisted Stourbridge, Worcestershire.

George Attwood’s early life was spent at Dudley where his father was an anvil maker. His family then moved to Amblecote where his father was employed by Isaac Nash and Sons at Wollaston Mills. He enlisted in October 1916 and joined the Royal Engineers. He was sent to the Mesopotamian theatre where he worked with the Inland Water Transport section. At some point Sapper George Attwood contracted a disease in the course of his duties working on the River Tigris. He probably died at the military hospital in Basra. He was 20 years of age.
