Served in the Chitral Expedition (1895), Punjab Frontier (1897-8) and Tirah Campaign (1897-8) with the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry.
Frederick Emms was born in 1874 in Ebrington near Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire. He was attested as Private, 3281, 4th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment on 11th September 1893 at Moreton in Marsh, Gloucestershire. On his attestation paper he gave his age as 19 years, 6 months, his residence as Ebrington near Chipping Campden and his occupation as a labourer for William Stanley in Chipping Campden. Frederick was 5 feet 4 and a half inches tall with a fresh complexion, grey eyes and dark brown hair. On 18th September, 6 days after his attestation he enlisted in the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry.
