Further Information About HILL Thomas

Thomas Hill volunteered for the Worcesters and joined the 9th (Service) Battalion. After training the battalion was sent out to Gallipoli to reinforce the troops on the peninsula. This second landing took place on the 6th August 1915. The actual landing was uncontested but the attempt to advance to the ridge was met by fierce Turkish resistance. The Worcesters suffered huge losses in the next four months, made worse by heat and disease. Trench warfare continued among the gullies and woods and among the wounded was Private Thomas Hill. He was taken by hospital ship to a military hospital in Egypt. where he died on the 10th November.
