Gunner A. Thompson of Coddington
The funeral of Gunner Albert Thompson took place on Monday at All Saints Church, Coddington, to which the coffin, draped with the Union Jack had been sent from a military hospital where Gunner Thompson died of the wounds he received in the fighting, with an Airborne Division, in Normandy. He was 26 years of age and prior to joining the Forces, was on the staff of the Lincolnshire Road Car Co. Much sympathy is extended from all in the village, to his wife and baby daughter, and to his mother and family. The service was conducted by Rev. G. Morgan, and the lesson taken from the Book of Wisdom was read by Rev. Bee. Mr Rick was at the organ and the choir was led by Mr Ross. The hymns “Lead us Heavenly Father, lead us” (his favourite) and “Rock of Ages” and Psalm 23 were sung. As the cortege left the church, “O Rest in the Lord” was played.

The report concludes with a list of the family mourners.
